Lidia Aviles at the World Future Forum, “AI approach to have human centered”

World Future Forum 2024: A New Beginning for Global Innovation and Sustainability

The inaugural World Future Forum, held in Lisbon in December 2024, marked a significant milestone in global efforts toward sustainable innovation. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen inaugurated the event, commending the launch of Technology Collaboration Labs—interdisciplinary hubs designed to ensure technological advancements are both cutting-edge and ethically sound.

A highlight of the forum was the introduction of the Sustainable Finance Goals (SFGs) by Allied4Future (A4F). These goals aim to redirect capital flows toward green ventures, positioning investment mechanisms as pivotal drivers in the transition to a climate-neutral and sustainable economy.

The event convened a diverse group of leaders, including policymakers, scientists, technologists, and investors, all dedicated to transforming visionary ideas into actionable strategies. Portugal’s Minister for Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, emphasized the forum’s mission to not only meet climate objectives but also to stimulate economic growth, attract investment, and enhance quality of life.

The December 2024 edition of Innovators Magazine provides an in-depth look at the forum’s discussions, featuring insights from figures such as Carlos Moedas, Mayor of Lisbon; Shiva Dustdar of the EIB Institute; and Marceline du Prie from TU Delft. Topics covered include advancements in quantum technology, the evolving relationship with AI, and the role of climate geoengineering.

Aviles highlighted the necessity for AI systems to be designed with a focus on human well-being, fairness, and the reduction of biases. She advocated for interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure that AI development prioritizes ethical standards and contributes positively to society
