Dyslexia Conference to Support Parents and Educators

Experts Provided Practical Guidance on Reading, Writing, and Concentration Skills

Waterloo, Belgium — September 16, 2013 — The Scandinavian School of Brussels (SSB) and Bogaerts International School (BIS) were pleased to announce a joint event, “Learning One Step at a Time: Dyslexia Conference,” designed to support parents and educators in better understanding and assisting children with reading, writing, and concentration challenges.

The conference took place on Thursday, 26 September, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the SSB/BIS Main Building, Square d’Argenteuil 5, Waterloo 1410 (Room 205). The session was conducted in both English and French.

This initiative reflects both schools’ commitment to inclusive education and to fostering environments where every student can thrive. The evening featured expert presentations and practical advice from three distinguished educators:

  • Dr. Fiona Meyer, Doctor of Education and EAL Primary School Teacher
  • Ann Hoogvelts, Master in Psycho-pedagogy and Primary School Teacher
  • Lidia Aviles, Educator specialized in international pedagogy and experienced in working with ADHD and learning differences

Together, they shared research-based strategies and actionable insights aimed at empowering parents to better support their children’s development in literacy and focus skills.

Participation was free of charge.
